When settling down becomes crucial

We all heard a lot about the disadvantages of spending all out time sitting down in front of the TV or hunched over the computer keyboard. Turns out that for those of us who are not pro sportsmen being astir all the time can bring more harm than good.

We all need to get some rest throughout the day. This rings very true for active people in their 40s and older, especially males who are the main target of one unpleasant ailment. The faster and longer you run, the quicker plantar fasciitis may catch up with you.

This disease is not new to the medics and a lot of people are diagnosed with plantar fasciitis every year. The symptoms are stiffness and painful sensations in the bottom of the heel, especially after a pause in walking activity (i.e. after the night sleep). This is usually caused by overstraining and abusing your feet by spending too much time standing up or running on rough downhill surfaces. Flexible and soft heels (think wearing slippers at work here) and excess weight problems also may worsen or actually initiate the problem. Inflammation and heel spur are frequent companions of this health problem.

The disease is diagnosed through visual clinical examination. The affected limb is often reddish in color and swollen. Painful sensations and the presence of the heel sour also help with the diagnosing process. Treatment is usually non-operative because this drastic measure is only taken to relieve severe pains because in other cases an operation may cause more harm than good. The condition is greatly relieved by rest, firm-heeled shoes, anti-inflammatory medicine and stretching exercises. Massage and ultrasound treatment also greatly relieve the pain in this case.

If you know about plantar fasciitis from your own experience don't despair. Maybe it is time to change your job and finally find some time for other pleasures in life or even start your own business. Every reaction we get from our body happens for a reason, and this unpleasant foot problem could also be a painful way to bring you back on the tracks of enjoyable life.
